Well, today my oldest son was at my mom's house doing work to make money so he can buy himself a skateboard. Anyway, I went to go get him and decided to take the honda. Well, the first thing that happened was that ANOTHER pair of sunglasses broke when I was trying to put them on with my helmet on - that is like 3 pair in the past 4 months! So anyway, I HAVE to have sunglasses to ride or to be in the sun for that matter, so I have to wear them with one of the "arms" broken. No big deal really.

So I love the trip to my mom's house (in the country of course) and there are awesome roads with moderate twisties and long sloping hills and straightaways. I was in a weird mood, so I leaned down over top of my gas tank (sort of like you ride a sport bike) to minimize ...... Read More

Jul 02 2009   Front tire wear
written by RonK | 57 Views | 18 Replies | Print article

I get about 4,000 miles per 1/32nd inch of tread on my front 880 Metzelers.  They started with 6/32 and after 16,000 miles, have 2/32 left.  I don't know exactly when to change--I'm thinking at 1/32 of tread.

Have any of you folks had a blowout with near bald tires any more than new ones?  Or ever even had a blowout?   :Huh?:

MIC Offers Standardized Way to Measure Motorcycle Exhaust Volume Levels

Loud pipes If you've ever gotten a ticket for loud pipes that seemed completely arbitrary, you'll probably appreciate the Motorcycle Industry Council's latest effort. It took three years and $250,000 to field-test and develop the system encapsulated in SAE document J2825, entitled "Measurement of Exhaust Sound Pressure Levels of Stationary On-Highway Motorcycles."

The methodology promises an objective, scientific way to decide which motorcycles are breaking the law with their loud exhausts. The procedure includes two tests which are intended to be easily administered roadside: an idle test and a set RPM test. The recommend limits include ...... Read More
Jun 30 2009   New Yamaha Hybrid announced
written by Goliath616 | 53 Views | 9 Replies | Print article

Back in 2005, Yamaha showed the wacky 2005 Gen-Ryu hybrid concept bike at the Tokyo Motor Show amidst a raft of other very non-conventional two wheelers such as the aptly named FC-Me fuel cell bike, the ingenious Deinonychus elec tric reconfigurable motorcycle, the Chivicker, Passol and the Maxam two-wheeled limousine. Now it appears certain the bike will become a showroom model in 2010. A series of patent applications detail the new motorcycle which uses the YZF-R6 600cc engine to turn a generator which in turn powers the rear wheel. History shows that every Yamaha styling patent published over the last 20 years has resulted in a full production machine, so ...... Read More

"In less than five months we took a suggestion and turned it into a motorcycle. A motorcycle that is unlike anything I have ever ridden. No gas, no oil, no clutch, no need to even warm up the engine- no engine. Gone is the age old ritual of rhythmical throttle blips that can audible seduce a motorcyclist into a pre ride trance- now your bike waits for you. Enter what may be the next big thing in motorcycles; invisible, nearly silent and magically linear power,

2010 next-generation Honda VFR
It's been more than eight years since the venerable VFR received its last significant update
Main frame spars are massive and near-horizontal, indicating chassis stiffness in line with big horsepower radical V-4 (rumored to be as much as 200 at the crank)
