Press a button and,........
« on: December 09, 2011, 06:24:24 PM »
My birthday present this year is to have a remote start system installed on my R/T. It already has a remote door lock system that came with the car. One draw back is that it has a century key. That rules out any $99 special. Now the cost for a good unit brings the price to anyway from $140 to $270. I've been looking at the Viper unit, which suppose to be one of the best and surprisingly enough, that is the cheapest of all of them. One draw back is the it only has a year warranty on the unit. All the others have a life time warranty on the control box and 2 or 3 years on the pads. Have to look around some more.  :hmm:

Hell, we went into Iraq...not because of suspected WMDs but simply because Bush heard that some Iraqi cars, had missing or improperly mounted front license plates. Those things have come a long way, not nearly the headache they used to be. If you're gonna' self-install, get one that has the harness "T" connector...it'll make the installation a whole lot easier. The "T" isn't always available for all makes and models so do your research. If you have to make splices, make the connections exactly as the instructions prescribe. With some (used to be most) systems, soldering is taboo....it'll alter the resistance in the circuit and create problems with the computer. With most of the older ones, they advised only bare wire loop & wrap connections.

I've had one of the earliest Bulldog units on my '89 Chevy pickup, for probably 7 or 8 years and never had a bit of trouble with it. I did a basic hookup (start only, I didn't want the horn blowin' or the lights flashing) so it wasn't too bad....that was before the "T"s were available. There's a hood safety switch that's supposed to keep it from starting, whenever the hood's up but it isn't fail-safe. I was hooking-up a second battery in my truck and dissatisfied with my wire routing, I disconnected, rerouted and reconnected the cables a few times. After the third or fourth time, the engine started by itself. Luckily, I was clear of everything at that particular moment but a few seconds either way and it could've been painful.
Trust me.....I do this all the time! ;)

I installed an Astroflex (astrostart) 2 way with 5000 ft range in my pickup.  It is great when it is -20 in the morning like today.

H*ll ya. While you are drinking coffee the ride is getting toasty inside.
Good for the engine's health also.

When I got Kerry's neon I had remote start installed on it for her. Best money I ever spent. Get into a cool car in the summer, and a warm car in the winter.
I used to get high on life, then I realized my dealer was cutting it with morons.

Must be nice to be able to start your car and let it idle when its cold and not have your neighbor(s) give you dirty looks, so smile and kindly flip em the bird.  :headbang:

Nah, her neon is quiet. The fury on the other hand is rather loud, as was the Yamaha and my old Blazer. But the neighbors are all cool except for the b***h next door, for her I give the Fury a few extra revs, and sometimes scratch the tires a bit when I see her out. But I always wave while doing it.

well,...i did finally have the remote installed. it works great. should have had one put in sooner.
cold mornings, just point the little black box at the car push the button and by the time i take my pills, put my coat on the car is ready to go.
something when i get out of work,......walk out the door push the button twice and by the time i get to my car it's ready to go.
